“Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s.”

(1 Cor. 6:19-20)

Why I’m here.

After beginning my career as a nutrition counselor, it did not take long for me to discover that I was placed in a rather delicate role as a healing presence for my patients. Food and food relationship is an incredibly intimate topic. I was adequately trained to provide evidenced-based medical nutrition therapy as a way to provide care for my patients’ bodies. In addition, my training provided an emphasis on the patient-centered approach, caring for the whole patient, including respect for their needs and wants, emotional support, and involvement of family and friends. But despite these noble competencies, I was not quite prepared for the broken and malnourished soul my patient would place in my outstretched hands.

“Lord, help me help her” I would internally cry. “I can’t do this without you.”

Slowly, I took Christ out of his Sunday box and began to let Him into my professional life. I began to see how the healthy practices I had been preaching in the office were reflected in the teachings of our Church. With this new understanding, what I found was more fulfilling relationships with my patients, and a gentle enactment of a greater sense of true healing. I am grateful for the thorough and necessary six years of schooling that enables me to call myself a nutrition expert, and yet, it is no match for the 2,000 years of patristic wisdom the Orthodox Church has to offer.

Our faith is ancient, and it is alive.

Christ belongs in your everyday life. He desires this. Let me help you make those connections between God and everyday habits. I desire to help you not just feed your body, but nourish it; not just to exercise, but to move; not just seek happiness through wellbeing, but to seek everlasting joy. Let’s walk the straight and narrow path together as we seek to grow in Christ.
